Do not attempt this unless you are sure you know the bees you are dealing with. Wild animals are usually respectful of their surroundings if everything around them returns the same circumspection. Invade their personal space without permission and the result comes with a sting in the tail. I rarely use smoke on this colony and so when opened they are not immediately on edge and expecting trouble! So it takes time for them to say enough is enough, go way, which had I continued for much longer then there might have been a slightly different outcome.
